Last year, with good intentions, Brett let me know what my self tanner on my face was getting a little speckled. I thanked him and laughed inside because little did he know, that was definitely not self tanner. It was sun damage. All of the years spent growing up at our pool, lake house, and winters spent at the family condo in Mexico were finally catching up to me. I have been really motivated to take better care of my skin, and that includes both at home skin care as well as trying out other in-office treatments as well. I’ve always wanted to try a chemical peel, but I never actually bit the bullet and tried it until now. Today I am teeming up with Glytone to share my experience from my first chemical peel with you.
Glytone Chemical Peel Review
Chemical peels can target aging, hyperpigmentation, eye and lip aging, blemish prone skin, brightening, and even hand aging. I honestly wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but I envisioned my face peeling really badly and not wanting to go into public for a few days. When I called to schedule my appointment at Linda Woodson Dermatology (in Las Vegas) they assured me not to worry and that meeting with a dermatologist would be the best route to decide what type of peel I should start with. When I arrived at my appointment, I expressed my concerns about sun damage and fine lines. She suggested starting with the lowest level Glytone peel. She said they recommend most people start with that and eventually build up to stronger more intense peels.
Glytone Chemical Peel: The Results
First we decided to derma plane my skin. (Another item that had been on my skincare bucket list.) This felt amazing! They basically take a razor to your skin and it sluffs off the peach fuzz and dead skin. My skin felt like it could breathe again after this process. I imagine this makes the Glytone chemical peel even more beneficial since my skin had less of a barrier on it. I loved it.
Then she applied the Glytone chemical peel to my face and let it sit for a couple of minutes. I honestly thought it would sting more than it actually did! She turned a fan while we waited, and on a scale of 1-10 it was probably a 3 in the discomfort department. Not bad at all. Then she wiped the Glytone peel of of my face and that was it! She did a few extractions on my face after the peel as well. I was thinking a chemical peel would be an hour long process but I was in and out so fast!
Glytone Chemical Peel: Immediately After
Immediately after, my skin was red as you can see in the picture below. I was instructed not to go into the sun or sweat the rest of the day. (I didn’t mind a little break from the gym!) She also suggested not to put any intense skincare products on my face the next couple days. Other than that, my skin felt tight and I felt like I already had a bit of a glow going on. Over the next few days, my skin didn’t do anything too drastic. Maybe a few dry flakes here and there, but thats it.
Glytone Chemical Peel: The Results
I can tell you right now, I will be back for more! I can only imagine how these subtle changes will continue to improve my skin each time I go. I need to do my research to see how often I can get this done because I am hooked. My makeup goes on smoother, and I feel like I look better with a makeup free face compared to before. (Hello brightened skin!) My sun damage is slightly better, which feels like a miracle! You can see before and after photos below. I am so glad I took before pictures so that I can continue to track my progress as I continue to have more Glytone peels.
Brett actually joined me to photograph this and he mentioned that he is interested in scheduling one. (Um what!? He has never been into skincare (not even moisturizer) so this is a BIG deal!)
Some last minute tips:
Keep in mind when booking your chemical peel that your face may break out for a few days after the process. If you have a special event coming up, be sure to plan your peel far enough ahead of time to allow for a full recovery! Be sure to do your research on brands that your dermatologist uses. I have heard some crazy (negative) stories from friends about chemical peels, but have heard nothing but good things about Glytone. (I went to Dr. Linda Woodson Dermatology in Las Vegas.)
Special thanks to Glytone for sponsoring this post and making my chemical peel dreams come true. This is only the beginning!
