Some of my most frequently asked questions are “can you share your healthy hair tips?” “How do you get your hair to shine?” That is such a nice compliment, especially because it took some work transitioning my hair from humid Houston weather to the dry Las Vegas climate. I definitely had to work for it! For a while I felt like I had such dry, dull, brittle hair, with a ton of breakage. I have been really happy with my hair lately and wanted to share a few healthy hair tips and tricks that have worked really well for my hair!
Top 4 Healthy Hair Tips Every Girl Should Know
- Use oil! This 100% Virgin Coconut Oil Daily Hydration Leave-In Treatment from SheaMoisture has virgin coconut oil and smells SO amazing. I use this in my hair wet or dry, and it helps protect my hair from the heat and also makes it nice and shiny. I know greasy hair might be your first thought when you think about putting oil in your hair, but it makes such a big difference and does not create greasy hair. I make sure I don’t use any oily products directly on my roots, and focus more on the ends.
- Don’t put heat on your hair every day. I used to straighten my hair every single day. That can be so damaging on your hair! Try to limit the amount of times you take a straightener or curling iron to your hair per week! I try to style my hair so that it only needs a little touch up the next day rather than completely redoing all of my hair. Using a flexible hair spray is a great tip to help hold your style! Brushing through my curled hair the next day gives it a beachy type of wave!
3. Don’t wash your hair every day. The thought of not washing my hair every day used to make me cringe, but it makes such a big difference! You definitely need to train your hair to be able to go days without washing it, but it is really good for your hair! Honestly, I could write an entire post on this topic because I have so much to say about this! When you feel like you can’t go another day without washing your hair, throw a hat on it! When I do wash my hair, I like to use the 100% Virgin Coconut Oil Daily Hydration Shampoo from SheaMoisture.
4. Take advantage of your environment. When I am in humid places, believe it or not I have a natural wave. This SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie is the perfect product to go au natural and let my natural waves out – without the frizz! Trust me, if I let my hair air dry in Las Vegas it is not pretty, but don’t be afraid to experiment in different climates. I have found if I just put a small amount in the palm of my hand (when in humid weather), rub my hands together and run it through wet hair it works great! After running it through my towel dried hair, I scrunch it with my hands and throw it in a messy bun for a little bit! It really helps tame the frizz. Plus, if I’m on vacation, it is so nice to spend as much time at the beach or pool and just throw some of this in my hair. I think it’s all about testing out different products. At first glance I would think this would only work on someone with very tight curls, but I love what it does to my hair! (Again, this smells amazing!!)
The SheaMoisture products I mentioned are available at the Albertsons Companies Family of stores (see your closest store below) and you can save $2 when you buy one SheaMoisture product! They contain natural and certified organic ingredients. Our new house is right by two Albertsons and I have loved shopping there lately!
