With so much excitement built up around our house remodel, it can also be a little uneventful at times. There are so many behind the scenes things going on that don’t necessarily result in a big visible change! While we don’t have much visible progress the last couple of weeks, we have finalized a lot of design elements that we are planning in our home. I thought it would be fun to share our Modern Farmhouse mood board with you to give you a better idea of what we are envisioning in phase I of our DIY Home Remodel.
Modern Farmhouse Mood Board: Basics
Let’s start with some of the most crucial elements that we chose first!
I actually had my mind set on Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace paint before we even decided which house we were buying! I love it! Our countertops are actually different than what we had originally envisioned, but the moment I saw them I knew they were the winners! The raw look to them is so unique. My favorite part is the rough and raw aspect. We have heard they are very high maintenance, so we will be doing our research to see what we can do to protect them. We bought our flooring through ProSource, and the color is the perfect combination of light oak with some grays in it.
Modern Farm House Inspiration Board: Dining Area
Brett has always told me he will build a big farmhouse table some day. The only problem is with so many other projects on his hand, I don’t know if I can be patient enough to wait for that moment. We have a very open floor plan and I feel like this room will just fit so perfectly with all of our other plans.
Modern Farmhouse Mood Board: Master Bedroom
Another project that Brett wants to take on: a platform bed. They are gorgeous! He will need to figure out where to order special lumber for this type of project. We want to keep the decor very simple and peaceful in here. Not pictured: Sliding barn doors that will open up into my master closet. I chose not to include this in our inspiration boards because it’s a little more difficult to find images to portray what we have in mind.
Modern Farmhouse Mood Board: Kitchen
This is one of my favorite inspiration boards that I created. I can’t wait to see it all come together!

Modern Farmhouse Mood Board: Entry Room
I can’t decide if I want to order this rug for my office or my entry room! It’s a small space, so I want to make it pretty and simple. I’m undecided on if the photos will be black and white or color. We had a similar gallery wall in our old home and it was one of my favorite things!

Modern Farmhouse Mood Board: Mudroom & Laundry Room
I am on the fence about gray vs. charcoal tile, and I’m also on the fence on a front loading washer and dryer. The wood countertop over the top looks dreamy to me! We will be refacing the cabinets, and I haven’t decided if we will be adding in a sink. (We had a very ugly sink in here and decided to take it out. What do you think? Do you have a sink in your laundry room / mudroom? Worth it?)

Modern Farmhouse Mood Board: Fireplace
This particular gray brick is from Eldorado Stone! I really love the shades of gray. I’m more drawn to lighter colors but we think this will look best against our paint color. The fireplace will be our first completed project we just need to finalize the brick! We went with this Touchstone fireplace and it will be arriving soon! I have wanted a mantle for a long time… mainly for Christmas time… and we’re just working on finding the perfect wood for the mantle at the moment.
Modern Farmhouse Mood Board: Living Area
Our sliders will be arriving in about a month and a half! I really love this from Hunter Fan, which will really accent the black framing of the sliders! I am thinking 60′ will be great for the large open space. When we removed part of a wall in our home to open up the floor plan, we had to leave one beam. We will be encasing this beam, as well as running a few faux beams along the ceiling to pull the whole modern farmhouse look together.

These are all beautiful home inspiration! I can’t wait to see it all together.
