My favorite types of family photos are the casual ones! It is most common to take family pictures right before sending out Christmas cards, but I love the idea of taking casual Spring family photos to switch things up a bit. Take these in-home photos that we did a couple years ago. They are some of my favorite pictures because they are the most natural opposed to being freezing and fancy in a field (which I do also love).

What to Wear for your Casual Spring Family Photos
I always suggest choosing YOUR outfit first, and then moving onto the kids from there. Husbands seem to be the easiest in my opinion. Once you think you have your outfit, have someone take a couple pictures on your phone so that you can see how it photographs. Sometimes you think you have the best outfit and then you see it in pictures and it looks completely different and sometimes unflattering.
Casual photos really take the pressure off of everything being perfect. To be honest, we were headed to a blog photoshoot and as we were headed out the door I told Brett to grab his black pullover in case we decide to take some pictures all together. Nothing is too matchy, and the mood was light instead of stressed!

I always suggest finding a photographer who captures the in-between moments, because those are usually the best! Sure, the few shots where we are all smiling and looking at the camera are rare gems, but I personally love shots like this the best! The ones where we were trying to get Michael to laugh. (Thanks Bethany Paige Photography for ALWAYS capturing the in between moments that I love so much!)
Another fun idea for your that make the cutest casual spring family pictures is having some sort of prop like milkshakes or ice cream! We didn’t have time in these pictures, but it just adds such a fun element to the pictures! (Sometimes things can get messy ie. when I tried to get ice cream cones for our family halloween pictures, so keep those sort of things in mind.)
Always have at least one person in a pattern! Paige and I both had on a variation of stripes, so try to be conscious of this when positioning yourselves for pictures. For example, the pictures where Brett is holding Paige look better than the pictures where I am holding Paige because our outfits flow better! Hope you’ve enjoyed these casual Spring family photos!
