Lately I’ve had a few conversations amongst friends about what they feel is justifiable to spend more money on: everyday basics like tops and jeans, or on the contrary: items that will likely get worn once or twice such as dresses. It’s a great debate, and honestly I see valid points on both sides.
At first, my mind goes to the dresses. Well of course, if I have a wedding or event to attend, I want my dress to be top notch, on point, and feel like I am dressed to perfection. Then my friend brought up a good point: Why not invest more in the items that you’re going to wear over and over again. She would rather buy an extremely nice sweater that she is going to get a lot of use out of instead of paying for an extravagant dress she will barely wear. It really got me thinking. Why do our minds have a hard time spending money on a nice top, but spending a couple hundred dollars on a dress seems more normal?
Where do you stand on the great debate? As a rule of thumb I just always try to buy things that I absolutely love, and that I know I will get a lot of use out of. Investing in nice pieces that work with multiple outfits will overtime create a dreamy wardrobe that you will love.

I was recently asked the question: How much are you willing to spend on an entire outfit. If I were to add up how much an entire outfit costed, I would probably hate to admit how much it was, but collecting those pieces over time really makes such a big difference. Then you can mix and match those pieces to create endless outfits.
Today I’m talking about three winter essentials that you will wear over and over again that are totally worth the investment. You may already have some of these in your wardrobe already! The best part is that the sweater I’m wearing is 40% off right now, making it under $50 and it is available in multiple colors. Lets get started:
3 Winter Essentials Worth Investing In
Winter Essential #1: A Relaxed Sweater
A relaxed sweater is a must have through both Fall and Winter. Pair it with jeans, top it with a scarf or statement necklace, layer it with a cardigan or coat, or pair it with a high waisted skirt. A relaxed sweater is a piece you can always rely on to put together a great winter outfit.
Banana Republic is having 40% off Winter Essentials right now, which makes this lightweight relaxed cashmere blend sweater under $50. That is such a rare price on any type of cashmere! Winter Essential #2: Black Leather Boots
Black boots are a must. You can pair them with just about anything: Jeans, leggings, skirts, dresses. The pair in the photos are Stuart Weitzman however they are sold out. I linked to the first pair of black leather boots I’ve ever owned. I’ve had them for years and they’re still in great condition. They don’t show a lot of wear on them, and I’ve worn them so many times. Plus, they’re comfortable and affordable.
Winter Essential #3: Black Jeans
We all have regular denim jeans, but do you have a pair of black denim in your closet? They are the perfect way to complete any outfit and it’s so much easier to pair with tops compared to regular denim. No need to worry about colors clashing with blue, not to mention black on black is the ultimate chic outfit this winter. This pair is probably the best black pair you can start out with if you don’t own a pair yet. They fit great, dont sag throughout the day, and hit at the ankles which gives you the option to pair with boots or show off some fun shoes. If you prefer jeans that are tight at the ankles and don’t bunch up with boots, these are amazing.
