Can you believe Summer is here? My kids are significantly better and happier when I try to switch things up! Too much of the same and they get a little bit crazy. I really love to hear what works for other moms, so today I thought it would be fun to share what works for us! I hope you enjoy my 5 tips for preparing for summer as a mom.. This list has me SO excited for summer!
Preparing for Summer as a Mom: 5 Ways
-
Get Local
Step one for preparing for summer: Do some research, talk to other moms, search online, and see what types of Summer activities your town has to offer. For example a lot of libraries offer story time for kids, find out what the best splash pads are in your area, easy hikes that your family can handle, pools that locals can swim at, waterparks, etc. Get out of your normal routine this Summer and start finding new and fun things. I like to come up with a mix of indoor and outdoor activities. Here in Las Vegas there are some unique things to do like the Shark Reef Aquarium.

2. Make a Summer Bucket List!
It does NOT need to be fancy or full of expensive things. Include everything from the local happenings that you scoped out to fun activities you can do at home, making a fun breakfast, build an awesome fort, make popsicles, get sno cones. Give each kid a special day with each parent. Example: Michael will get to spend an entire day with me full of fun things, his favorite foods, something new and exciting, etc. Another easy thing to add to your bucket list is a mud pie activity! I always love to make mud pies once kids are old enough to understand the concept:
Kids Mud Pie:
I put them in these Terra Cotta cups.
Add ice-cream for first layer.
Blend or crush Oreos for the dirt.
Top with Gummy Worms sticking out of the “dirt.”
Kids LOVE them!

3. Create a to-go bag full of summer essentials.
You never know what adventures summer is going to bring, so I always try to be prepared and flexible. I always have a few things packed in a bag with a swimsuit for everyone, a cover up, towels, and some other goods. I feel like it can already take so long to get out the door sometimes so having a grab & go bag with all of the essentials saves time and creates less chaos! 4. A few new toys can go a long way!
I wish we could spend all day every day outside, but when the temperature is easily 100 degrees + it’s important to have fun things to do inside too. Finding toys that kids like to play with for long periods of time isn’t always easy but it feels like a miracle when you come across a good one! Here are a few of our favorites:

5. Get into a Flexible Routine.
Create a structure to your day that works with the spontaneity of Summer. I really love what Jenna from @JennasKitchen came up with for a Summer Chore & Checklist. You can cater it towards your child, have it laminated and grab a dry erase marker. The kids are required to complete all of the items before they can do anything with technology. GENIUS. They can check off all of the items and wipe it clean each morning.
