To be honest the catalog only had a couple things that caught my eye, but I have seen every single item in the sale and there are some real gems in there!
Nordstrom Anniversary Sale: all the Tips you’ll Need to Shop
Buy Now Return Later
There’s nothing like regretting a purchase or thinking you’ll buy it in a few hours. Things go FAST. You can always purchase and then decide later on if you want to keep or return. I always over buy, try on, then narrow things down later!
Don’t Give Up if Something Sells Out.
You never know if an item will be restocked, so keep refreshing that page every couple days. There are a few times throughout the sale that items are restocked. This is honestly why I love shopping online. As I mentioned, I worked for Nordstrom for a few years and have seen first hand how things work! Things are actually roped off in the stock rooms and are saved for when the public sale starts when “early access” is over. It’s a little cringeworthy knowing that you are shopping early access but items you want really are on the other side of the wall. That being said, I also understand that the stores need to have things to restock for when public sale starts! People are also over-buying and returning later on so you never know when something will pop back up online.
Behind the Scenes (Online Vs. In stores)
This is where things get interesting. Do you prefer shopping in stores or online? I do both! Partially because I want to purchase items and start photographing them for you. I don’t want to wait for shipping, etc. I want them in my hand right then and there. That being said, I do the majority of my shopping online. After 7/11 (the shopping day for Ambassadors and Icons) most items in stores are sold out. It is crazy to see. Flashback to my Nordy days: I would show up 2 hours before store opening to start pulling product for my customers and over 50% of the items they wanted waiting for them in their fitting rooms were gone. The store would only have one size run of products that were featured in the catalogs (one xs, one s, one m, one l, one xl, etc), and many of the catalog products weren’t carried in our store. Employees would literally hide products in order to be the one to sell them later that day. Ah it stresses me out just thinking about it. At the same time, there is something so fun about going into the store during early access of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale! I tend to notice completely different items when I’m walking through the store and it’s fun to see what people are trying on and loving.
Sometimes Overnighting your Purchases is Worth It.
You may have noticed in the past that you will place an order, and then items begin to be cancelled from your order one by one. It is such a bummer when you really want something and then they remove it from your order. Shipping takes longer than normal in general during this sale since so many people are shopping. This means that if you expedite shipping ($15 – $25 depending on which option you choose), they are fulfilling your order first! It will come faster and it is less likely to have cancelled items on your order.
Buy Online, Pick Up in Stores.
A great alternative to this is to buy online and pick up in stores! You can select a tab to see exactly what you store carries, which is amazing! You can then select “buy and pick up” instead of having it shipped to your house. It does narrow down the selection but you’re able to have that same day satisfaction! My major tip to shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale this way is to place your online order before your store opens. Their web team starts fulfilling these orders before stores are opened. Your chances of not having cancelled items are much higher the earlier you do this. Definitely plan for certain items to be cancelled because as the store is opened, people will start shopping and will most likely grab items off the racks that were in your order if that makes sense. My favorite part about this feature is that I can pull up to the curb and they will bring my order out to my car! No unloading kids and figuring out how to juggle shopping bags and babies!
Stay Focused.
