Have you ever seen a big family picture where the color scheme isn’t too matchy matchy, but everyone’s outfits just kind of flow? Today I’m sharing color scheme family picture ideas! While our little family of four is pretty easy to coordinate, when you add in the other 9 family members things can get a little tricky.

How to Create a Color Scheme for Family Pictures Step 1:
Before you start looking at color schemes, I highly recommend you choose your photographer and location. My recommendation is to browse the photographer’s Instagram or website to see where they shoot the most. We shot with Baylee Jo Photo near Bonnie Springs. Trust me when I say that you get what you pay for! Everyone knows someone who is a photographer, but being a photographer can mean a lot of different things. Do your research if you want all of the family picture planning and hassle to be worth it.

Search for family pictures on Pinterest. Save the photos that you like, and then narrow it down to something everyone agrees on.

Pull the colors from the picture. I like to use Instagram stories. Open up the photo on Instagram stories. Hit the dropper tool, then touch the screen on the colors.
Draw the colors and continue to do this for every color you’d like to include in the color scheme.

Send this to everyone and hope for the best. Obviously those are very unique colors, so as long as people do their best it should all work out to have a similar theme!
How to Create a Color Scheme for Family Pictures Step 4:
Time to plan your outfits. Try to catch on to what other people are wearing. In the group text I noticed a lot of people were going with the more colorful options. As you can see, we stuck with the more neutral colors. (I probably would have chosen more neutral options a the end of the day anyways, but we did order a few different color options for each of us.) When in doubt, always over order. You can always bring things back to the store that don’t work out. Keep in mind too much of one color in the group can make it look like a few people in the family missed the memo. Balance is key. I also always keep the colors of my home in mind when choosing our outfits for family pictures.
When planning outfits for family pictures, always plan your outfit first. It just makes life easier I promise!
After my outfit is chosen, I use the “pile method.” (Just made that up.) Start throwing outfits in a pile together and you can tell right away if they’re going to look good together or not.

It’s go time! Everyone’s outfits looked great together. Be sure to fib about the meet up time by 15 minutes so that you’re all on time and respectful of the photographers schedule and the allotted time that you paid for!
