Ladies and gentlemen, I give you one of our first fully finished projects in our house remodel: our guest bathroom! Scroll down for our modern farmhouse bathroom decor ideas!
Funny enough, this is the last project that was on my mind but it all just kind of came together! I knew I wanted hexagon tile in our mudroom laundry room, so we decided to put it in this bathroom as well in order too make the house a cohesive space. I came across a photo on Pinterest with white subway tile in a bathroom and I absolutely loved it! Our kitchen has white subway tile with charcoal grout, so we decided to implement that into the bathroom as well. Once I made those two decisions, everything fell into place and I finally had a vision for the bathroom.

The original bathroom had a pedestal sink, an oval mirror, oranges tan walls and tile that I forgot to photograph. It was extremely ugly to say the least! I am so happy we decided to start from scratch on this project. After the flooring and subway tile was installed, We decided the other walls would look best with some texture as well. Plain walls just make it look a tad bit unfinished. This is where Brett’s handy work came into play. I’ll let him get into the details of exactly how he did the shiplap! But first, here are some progress pictures.
Modern Farmhouse Bathroom Decor Ideas: BEFORE
From Brett: The “shiplap” was pretty easy to put up once you have the dimensions of your space. I took 4×8 sheets of 1/4 inch plywood/underlayment and ripped them at 6 inches. An easy way to space out the planks is to use your left over 1/4 inch scrap and place them in between each board as you go. I started from the top and progressed to the bottom knowing that the baseboard would cover the any remaining space that the shiplap didn’t cover. Be sure to paint the wall prior to starting and sand the edge of the planks, this will make for a good finished product.
We kept an eye out for vanities on offer up but ultimately found our match at Lowes. It comes in a few different sizes and was a great price. It helped to bring the modern farmhouse vibes to life.
We decided to keep everything very simple with matte black accessories. Switching to a matte black toilet handle was such a simple change that made it look so much better in the room! We also purchased a faucet, toilet handle, mirror, lights, and a trash can. Eventually I will add a small vase with some pampas grass to complete the space, but I haven’t fallen in love with anything yet. I have been trying to be very mindful about every purchase I make for our home. I don’t want to rush anything just for the sake of finishing a room.
