Garage Gym Ideas: the Ultimate Gym Tour to Inspire Your Own Home Gym

As our home renovations begin, we decided it would make the most sense to get our garage set in place first. This is where Brett will be making all the magic happen for all of our home projects. Space for a garage gym was a must for us when we were house shopping. We actually loved our little garage gym in our old home, so we brought a lot of the same features and garage gym ideas along with us to our new home. Come along as I share our gym tour and cover some of our must haves in our at home garage gym!

A few essentials for us included a squat rack, a mirror, and mats. I would say the best squat rack you could purchase would be a Rogue Fitness squat rack. Ours is a little less pricey from Titan Fitness. It folds into the wall if you ever need the space in your garage. (We just leave it open at all times.) We’ve had it for a few years now and it’s been great. If I could only choose one piece of workout equipment for the rest of my life it would definitely be a squat rack. We also purchased our bar from Titan Fitness. One of my biggest tips is to focus on the essentials first and slowly accumulate the rest over time. Our gym is a combination of new and used equipment!

The black mats are from IFA. They are actually stall mats for horses. (This is probably one of our most frequently asked questions about our gym!) There are also a lot of great options on Amazon. One of my favorite features of our garage gym is our wood platform at the squat rack. I love how Brett incorporated the wood, along with a P for Parry. He stained a piece of wood to match the wood of everything else he stained in the gym and it really ties the whole thing together. This brings me to the next feature: The giant mirror. There are so many garage gym ideas out there, but very few of them have an amazing mirror in there. He purchased the mirror on offer up I believe, and then bought some wood to stain and create a frame. Then he added LED strip lighting behind the wood to create a glow effect when the mirror is turned on!

Brett being the ultimate Instagram husband (lol) found the best lighting for the gym! These LED garage lights are a must. They will not only be great for my upcoming workout videos I will be filming in here (yay!) but they will also be great for all of his projects.

Is it even a garage gym without a cute yoga mat? I LOVE this brand. They have so many fun designs and are about $30 cheaper if you buy them on Amazon instead of at Nordstrom. As far as weights go, we have kettle bells, dumbbells for me (5 pounds, 15 pounds, and 25 pounds), bumper plates for the squat rack, and this adjustable Bowflex set. These are great for Brett and save so much space. Instead of having a ton of dumbbells lining our entire gym, this set goes from 15 up to 90 pounds. They are a little too bulky for my preference, so I still chose to keep my little dumbbells around.

Other Accessories in our gym include these resistance bands, a jump rope, an ab roller, a bench, and a box. Our box was purchased from offer up, and Brett stained this to go along with our theme. There are plenty of options here for a good box as well. There are so many good exercises you can do with a simple box.

I hope you enjoyed these garage gym ideas! Having a gym in our home has made such a big difference.

It comes in so handy when the kids are taking a nap or if they’re sick and I don’t want to take them to the gym, leaving me with no excuses. Stay tuned for more of our home updates in the upcoming months, and in the mean time you can check out our past home projects here!
